Canada 101
With research from Environment Canada

At nearly 10 million square kilometres (3.9 million square miles) and stretching over 5,500 kilometres from the Atlantic to the Pacific, Canada is the second largest country in the world (after Russia) and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. Approximately 80 per cent of Canada’s 33 million residents live within 200 kilometres (124 miles) of the Canada-U.S. border. Our three largest cities, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, are all a relatively short drive from the U.S.

Canada is so big that just about everything about it is difficult to define. When it comes to weather, and more specifically winter weather, what you experience is a matter of where in Canada you are. The country is made up of 10 provinces and three territories.
