The Mag
Editor's Message

The media is the message.
In various places in the printed magazine, typically within the articles themselves, you’re going to notice small video TV icons.
We’ve placed them there as little footnotes reminding you that you can find a video of the subject on Canadian Winter TV. It’s our effort to make the magazine somewhat interactive, using the Web to make the stories come alive with motion and sound. We didn’t invent this, but we’re happy to take advantage of it in interesting ways.
For example, you can come ride with us on a toboggan, tube, snowbike or skis. We also show an animal masseuse giving a dog a massage and offering a few tips on how to keep your pet happy and healthy in winter. Now who wouldn’t like seeing that? I bet even non-dog owners will “tune in.”
More than trying to create a “wow” factor with technology, what we’re trying to achieve with Canadian Winter TV is entertaining content. It’s not high-end, polished content; in fact, most of the clips you’ll see are cinéma vérité, run according to how they were shot — with a few edits done mainly for length. In essence, they’re quick glances at cool winter activities. We also have slightly longer videos that we’ve put to music for you to enjoy, including one based on our cover story, beautiful Quebec City.
We’re also happy to announce that Canadian Winter Magazine has teamed up with the Chris Robinson Travel Show, the most popular radio travel show in Canada, to bring you all the highlights of this winter. In fact, Chris has penned a guest column in this issue and we’ve also provided a schedule of his shows.
When taken all together, including, of course, this new issue of Canadian Winter Magazine which again features some of the top winter destinations, activities, product and pastimes in Canada, we feel our efforts in promoting the season are both fresh and fun – kind of like winter itself.
